Welcome

Jenny would like to welcome you to the Monk & Tipster.
Set in the very heart of Towcester they offer a warm, friendly welcome
to visitors new and  old.

History

The Monk & Tipster is housed in a fabulous 17th Century building, built of coursed limestone and ironstone, the date stone proudly declares L WS M 1650.
In 1855, the building was a public house, named the Sun
.  The building was owned by Charles Liggins who also owned the properties down Sun Yard, which runs up the side of the pub.
In 1910 the premises formed a mineral water manufactory 'the Watling Well' owned by Hopcraft & Norris Ltd, the Brackly brewers.  It housed an office, store, factory, ginger beer brewery and stables!  The occupier was H. Jones.  The building still retains it's wall crane and first floor door to the store room as a reminder of those days.
Look out for our friendly resident ghosts, when you are visiting the Monk & Tipster,  which are rumoured to wander the building and are blamed for closing doors left open!

Bar

The Monk & Tipster is surprisingly 'tardis' like in it's size.  Split into 3 almost separate areas you will find plenty of seating, whether in the cosy front area, near the famous Monk & Tipster clock, in the middle bar area, or at the back where you will find Sky Sports, Prem Plus & 2 Pool tables!
Where ever you decide to sit you will find a friendly face, a warm, lively atmosphere and often live music to entertain you.

Food

The Monk & Tipster offers a varied menu (select our Menu page and be tempted!) of popular dishes.  Food is served in the evenings only during the week, with the addition of lunch times at the weekend.

Accommodation

The Monk & Tipster has 9 relaxing en-suite bedrooms.  Set in the perfect location for Silverstone they offer light and airy accommodation and prices include a Full English Breakfast to set you off to a fantastic start to the day.  Be warned, however, they are booked up well in advance of the Grand Prix weekend, so get in early!  Select our Accommodation page for full details.
